Mark Kalan
b. 1954, N.Y.C., Graduate of Tappan Zee High School (1972), Orangeburg, NY, with a major in Graphic Arts and Brooks Institute of Photography (1977), Santa Barbara CA, Diploma in Illustrative Advertising Photography and Color Technology. After graduating from Brooks, Mark apprenticed with many of the top advertising and fashion photographers in Manhattan, including such notables as Pete Turner, Mike Reinhardt and Hashi. He was studio manager for both Rebecca Blake and Palma Kolansky. In 1987 he opened his own studio on Warren Street in New York City where created numerous editorial fashion layouts for assorted magazines. In 1994 he left commercial photography to become the Publisher of City Cycle, a monthly motorcycle publication. For the next 12 years, as Mark irreverently puts it, he “rode motorcycles around the world on other people’s dime.”
