Everybody else's idea of her is all we see. Her face and identity are covered by required cloth and her hands decorated in somebody else's art. The little glimpse of the real her - her eyes - are the darkest part of the portrait and less likely to be seen. But, I think her eyes are pleading to those who will spend the extra time and see the real her.
