The photos I selected are special to me, because these were all chosen from my fatherʼs archive of negatives. My father introduced me to photography, so looking through his personal images helps shed a light on who he was as a younger man.My parents were hippies. They lived in houses they shared with friends. They helped run a food co-op out of the living room. My folks met while working at Western Psych in Oakland. My father was a psychiatric aid; thatʼs a fancy term for an orderly. My mother was a receptionist. As a kid, I was told stories about the house my family lived in on Ivy street. I would try to image what it was like. What my brother and sister were like a children (they have a different father than I do). What the house looked like. Who my folks shared their early adult hood with. These photos show me that our lives are not that different. They give me a different perspective, and help me to respect my family in a different way.
